Who does Sara provide counselling for?

Sara specialises in counselling for young people aged between 10-25 years. Please contact her to find out more or make a booking.

What are Sara’s qualifications?

Sara is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and maintains memberships with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). Sara has a Master’s Degree in Counselling, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is a Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist.

What are the fees?

The fee for a 50 minute individual counselling session is $135.00 and a family session is $150.00. Both of these fees are inclusive of 10% GST and a non-refundable credit card fee of 1.7% + $0.30 per transaction.

Purchase a package of 6 appointments and receive a 17% discount.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Sara charges a flat fee which is significantly lower than a Registered Psychologist. The $135 fee is the total amount you pay without additional out-of-pocket expenses.

Fees for Letters or Reports

If you need a letter or report to be written for your child’s school or doctor, Sara charges a fee of $50 per half-hour for the preparation of these letters or reports. The final price depends on the time needed to prepare the document. Sara will provide an estimate before starting the work, so you know what to expect. Payment is due when the letter or report is finalised and ready to be sent.

No referral needed! You can access counselling simply by clicking here.

Do you accept Medicare Mental Health Care Plans?

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Sara does not require a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan. She charges a flat fee which is significantly lower than a Registered Psychologist so there is no need for a Medicare rebate. The $135 fee is the total amount you pay without additional out-of-pocket expenses.

By choosing a Registered Clinical Counsellor instead of a Registered Psychologist, you can access quality mental health care at a lower cost without the need for a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan. This makes it more affordable for many individuals seeking regular therapy sessions.

Will our sessions be kept confidential?

The exception is when a Sara has a duty of care to report something that threatens your wellbeing or the wellbeing of others. This legal requirement will be explained to you in your first counselling session.

What can I expect during a counselling session?

During your first session, Sara will spend time getting to know you and will help you to feel comfortable. If you’re not sure or feeling nervous, that’s fine too! Counselling with Sara is flexible and tailored for the individual with the client’s needs and comfort as a priority. She believes this is the best way of making sure each person gets what they need out of the session. Parents and carers are encouraged to meet with Sara to discuss their concerns and reasons for seeking counselling.

Can I join my child for a counselling session?

Parent/Carer Sessions are encouraged to discuss your concerns without your child present and subsequent parent sessions can be arranged as needed. Family Sessions are also available.

Do you accept Private Health Funds?

If you have Extras with Bupa, Medibank, HCF, ARHG Health Funds or ahm, you can submit your receipt for reimbursement. Enquire at time of booking or contact for more information. 

How many sessions will I need to feel better?

Depending on the reason you are seeking counselling, you may feel better after only a few sessions or decide to continue counselling ongoing. Sara recommends purchasing a bundle of 6 sessions to ensure an adequate opportunity to build a therapeutic rapport, practise strategies and improve your overall sense of wellbeing.

There is no magic number of counselling sessions to feel better as everyone is different. Most of Sara’s clients report feeling a deep sense of connection and relief after their initial meeting and are eager to return for their next session. 

Can I contact Sara after hours or in an emergency?

Sara Torpey Counselling is not an emergency service and is closed after business hours. If you require immediate support, please contact emergency services or after hours counselling services such as:

Do you offer sessions on Zoom?

Sara believes that face-to-face counselling is essential for her to build a rapport and establish a therapeutic relationship with her clients. Zoom sessions are available for established clients and are approved at Sara’s discretion. 

What is your Cancellation Policy?

Payments are made through our secure online booking and payment system and are due at the time of booking. There is a non-refundable booking service fee should you need to cancel your appointment. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for rescheduling or cancellation of an appointment. If for any reason a session is canceled less than 24 hours prior, the full fee will be charged. You may also inquire whether there is an option to meet virtually if you’re unable to attend an in-person session.
